Structure 3D sensor for mobiles and Augmented reality games

Structure sensor 3D scanner

Now a days our smartphone is the first computer we switch on, it last one to switch off everyday.
There are lots of nifty things you can use the smartphone for, and soon you’ll be able to use it as a 3D object scanner. Structure's 3D sensor camera for mobiles gives the device capabilities similar to those of Microsoft’s Kinect gaming controller like Scan objects and rooms in 3D, play augmented reality games, and develop mobile apps with 3D vision.

Occipital, the San Francisco company behind the device, says it will start shipping its product in February 2014.Occipital has developed apps that  allow people to scan objects in 3-D by walking around them, and to scan entire rooms. One shows how the sensor can enable augmented reality, where virtual imagery is overlaid onto the real world when seen through a viewfinder. In that app, a person plays fetch with a virtual cat by throwing a virtual ball that bounces realistically off real-world objects

If you’re a developer, Structure gives you the ability to build mobile applications that interact with the three dimensional geometry of the real world for the very first time. You can even launch your app on the App Store!

According to Richard Darell on bitrebels, "The Structure Sensor can be used on anything and you don’t have to stand still or place an object into a 3D scanner machine. This device is added on to your iPad, and you can literally walk around and scan entire objects or environments down to the smallest detail. Not only does it scan, meaning creating a wireframe mesh out of the things it sees, but it textures it naturally so it looks like a photorealistic copy of the real thing at the same time. It is a mind-boggling thing to see and to think that it is all possible with a little device added onto your iPad is just an unearthly feeling."

Nilesh,

The apps are becoming so sophisticated. I am still struggling to understand how to use my Samsung Galaxy S4. The camera is awesome. And now you are saying there is an app to be able to photograph even better 3 dimensional images.

Warmly,

Dr. Erica
